Freeride/BMXer bound for land of dutchies - questions

Bericht door str8dwn » zo apr 11, 2004 2:11 am

I am headed over in July from the US to my company"s headquarters in Heemstede near Haarlem. This time, I am definitely bringing my Profile DSL-1 over and plan to do some urban assault and freeriding where possible. Problem is, I don"t know the area that well (only been there one other time). Also, I will be going to Valkenswaard for the BMX World Championships (for my company) so I will surely ride the track while I am there.

Question 1: Would you suggest a Kryptonite super burly lock? (or is more than 1 necessary?)
Question 2: Are there any places to ride near Haarlem or Heemstede? BMX Tracks?
Question 3: Any of you guys/gals live in that area and want to hook up and ride?

-Thanks!
Ryan

Flippie-
I heard bike theft was bad (from my Dutch co-workers). I am staying at a hotel in Haarlem. I plan on keeping my bike in my hotel room. Should I lock my bike up in the room when I go to work or will it be alright? Will the maids take it?

no i don`t think the maids will take it, but you should say something to them, so they won`t put it outside when they are cleaning or something, just in case

Pretty sure the maids won"t take it, we"re quite civilized over here.
Don"t leave your bike outside, ever, wherever you are!!

Or,.. you can leave your bike inside your room and take the maids... they probably want to hook up for a "ride"...
;)

I appreciate the help. Two locks if I ever need to leave it for a few minutes somewhere.

No good places to ride near Amsterdam? Haarlem? Street riding it is I guess.

Thanks again!

Yep street it is for the most part! No mountains and stuff in this little country! Maybe you can go ride in the dunes, but watch out you ride on marked paths, cause if the forresters catch you riding off track, that means paying up big time! I have seen some guys riding in the dunes near Schoorl, but I don"t know if that"s legal or not. Schoorl is a couple of miles up north near Alkmaar, in the dunes.

Hope I have been of any help. Where you"re from anyways? USAiiight?

In-de-boom-vlieger: Thanks for the advice about the dunes. When we went to the beach last time I was in Holland (just a bit south of Zanvoordt near where they hold that huge volleyball tournament), I was told by my co-workers that there were naked gay guys in the dunes looking for other gay guys (not what I am into! LOL). I am an American, hopefully I won"t stand out too much!

box one bastard: Is seat theft a problem if I don;t have a quick release seatpost? I can see how it would be if that was the case. I managed a bike shop near a major university and we had people coming in all the time with no seatpost and no seat. I always wondered where they all went!

Yer welcome!

Naked gay guys? haha, they"re messing with yer head man! Could be the truth, although you must go looking for em if you want to find em. Anyways, I dont think you will stand out too much being an american... unless you"re one hell of a biker! ;D

schoorl is illigal so we dont build there any more,.. there is only the normal track and everyrhing else is gone. so you cant jump in schoorl anymore.
